How to remove vinyl flooring with a multi-tool

How to remove vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is a popular option for homeowners, particularly in kitchens and bathrooms. It’s versatile, water and stain resistant and provides good durability for the cost. However, worn and torn vinyl flooring can’t easily be repaired and the best way to deal with this is to replace it with another floor covering.

Removing vinyl flooring can be a frustrating task without the right tool. Generally, the older the installation or the more traffic the area receives, the harder it will be to remove. Luckily, SMART have developed the Wide Scraper blade which makes removal of floor coverings a dream.

What is the Wide Scraper blade?

The Wide Scraper blade is a versatile multi-tool accessory designed for a range of uses. Including fast removal of silicone and large areas of floor and wall coverings, such as carpet and floor tiles. With a 67mm blade, this tool has a large surface area which is ideal to quickly and effectively remove all soft compounds. Plus, this blade is compatible with most multi-tool brands, making this a highly practical blade.

What if I don’t own a multi-tool?

While it is possible to remove vinyl flooring with standard hand tools, a multi-tool is far quicker and easier. However, if you are looking to remove vinyl flooring on a budget, you can use a heat gun and a putty knife. While this method is somewhat effective, it’s certainly not the easiest. Particularly in scenarios where you need to remove more than one layer of vinyl flooring. That’s right, tradespeople have come across needing to remove two or more layers of vinyl flooring. This is usually caused by DIYers not having the correct tools in the first place to remove the initial layer, so instead they layer vinyl over vinyl.

However, the beauty of the Wide Scraper blade is its efficiency to rapidly glide through the adhesive, peeling away the vinyl floor in next to no time. The Wide Scraper blade is specifically designed for this type of application that doesn’t require a lot space. Therefore, allowing you to effectively work in tight areas.
